Why do so many people call us a democracy? Didn't our forefathers loathe that form of govt.?

Government indoctrination camps (a.k.a. public school) has brainwashed them into thinking we have a democracy. Our founding fathers formed a representative republic so that we would not debase into a mob-rule scenario.
